Behaviour TherapyBehaviour Therapy, or Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy as it is presently known is a type of psychotherapy Problems are often caused by adverse events or circumstances that lead to maladaptive thoughts, assumptions or convictions, which in turn give rise to maladaptive behaviours and negative emotions. A diagnostic examination serves to elucidate the individual causes and maintaining factors in the personal history of a patient. A working model of the particular problem is constructed, and patient and therapist confer to agree on common treatment goals. Thereafter, the therapist presents the patient with appropriate treatment options, and the patient decides which way to proceed. Treatment techniques are demonstrated and applied within the therapeutic sessions, and the patient is instructed how to apply the techniques in his or her daily life. The aim of the therapy is to enable the patient not only to resolve current problems and difficulties, but also to strengthen the overall coping resources, so that he or she will be able to cope with problems that might arise in the future.
